Chicago Restaurants: Ranked support

Short answers to the questions people ask most. If yours isn’t here, email work-with-nick@gmail.com.
How do I contact support?
Email work-with-nick@gmail.com. Include your device, iOS version and what you expected to see. If you have a GitHub account you can also open a public issue on GitHub; issues are public, so leave out personal information.
A restaurant’s information looks wrong. How do I fix it?
Use “Report a problem with this listing” on the place’s page in the app, which starts an email that already names the place, or email work-with-nick@gmail.com with the place’s name, address and what looks wrong. If the place is matched to the wrong records, or its name or address is off, we fix it in a data update. Inspection results themselves come from the City of Chicago, and the app shows what the City published.
I own a restaurant and disagree with its grade.
The grade is calculated automatically from City of Chicago inspections since January 2023, the same way for every place (here is the method). New inspections change it once they are in the City’s data and reach the app in a weekly data update. We don’t change grades on request or for payment, but we do fix records matched to the wrong business.
Why doesn’t a place have a grade?
Either it has no pass, pass with conditions or fail on record since January 2023, or it is outside Chicago. Places in the rest of Illinois are map listings without inspection data.
Why can’t I find a restaurant?
Airports, stadiums and cafeterias are hidden by default; turn on “Include airports, stadiums, cafeterias & other non-restaurants” in the filters. Check that other filters, like hide chains or a grade, are off. A brand-new place may not be in the City’s records yet, or in the app’s latest data update.
How often is the data updated?
About once a week. When you open the app, it checks this website for newer restaurant data (at most once a day, or an hour later if a check didn’t get through), and when we have published some, it downloads it on its own, with no app update needed. The City posts inspection results as they are entered, some more than a week after the visit, and each update uses City records through about a week before it runs, so the app can lag the City by a week or more. The About screen and each Chicago place page show the date the app’s City records run through, and a place page can also show a newer City result posted after that date.
“Near me” isn’t working.
Near me needs location access. Open Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Chi Ranked and choose While Using the App. Location is optional, it stays on your device, and everything else works without it. On the web version, allow location for this site in your browser.
How do I delete my data?
The app keeps nothing on any server. Saved places live only on your device: unsave them in the app, or delete the app to remove everything. On the web version, saved places stay in your browser: unsave them there, or clear this site’s data in your browser. If you emailed us, ask and we will delete your emails.
Is there an Android or web version?
There’s no Android app, but there is a web version: Search on the web (chicago.eatsranked.com/explore/) has the same grades, rankings, search and map in your browser, with nothing to install. The app itself is for iPhone and iPad.
I found a bug or have an idea.
Please email work-with-nick@gmail.com. Small app, short list, real chance it ships.
